TSO Orchestral Career Development is designed specifically for instrumentalists on the verge of an orchestral career. Australian Youth Orchestra is pleased to again be working in partnership with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to present this program. Working alongside the members of the TSO in the preparation and performance of large-scale orchestral repertoire, this program also aims to address the demands of professional life and the changing role of the orchestral musician. The program will provide participants with skills and experience reflecting professional orchestral practice, knowledge of repertoire, orchestral techniques and discipline encountered within the profession.

ABC Classic FM will be recording the performance of Mahler's 9th Symphony for delayed broadcast on Saturday 7th November at 8pm.

CONDUCTOR: Sebastian Lang-Lessing 

Sebastian Lang-Lessing has been Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra since 2004. Under his directorship, the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy garnered the reputation of a National French Opera house, for Opéra national de Lorraine. He has led many major orchestras all over the world, including the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre de l' Opéra de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and the Radio Orchestras of Berlin, Frankfurt, and Saarbrücken.
