National Music Camp brings tomorrow’s greats to Adelaide

15 December 2008

From 4 -18 January 2009, the Australian Youth Orchestra’s acclaimed annual training program, National Music Camp, will bring Australia’s young stars of tomorrow to Adelaide, culminating in 7 outstanding free public performances.

From every state and territory of Australia, approximately 250 of the country’s finest young musicians, arts administrators, composers and music journalists, will come together for an intensive training program, National Music Camp, now in its 61st year.  From as young as 13 to 25 years, these hot, emerging artists will take part in a busy two-week schedule of rehearsals, masterclasses, tutorials and concert performances with international conductors and directors at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Adelaide.

The 2009 camp will be led by acclaimed Australian clarinetist, Paul Dean alongside renowned artist and director Fionnuala Hunt from Belfast, one of Ireland's most distinguished performers and artistic directors. For many years Fionnuala was the Artistic and Music Director of the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Joining her will be internationally lauded conductors James Judd (England) who has worked in the top concert halls in Europe with the most formidable orchestras including the Orchestre National de Lille (France), Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic and London Philharmonic; and Francois-Xavier Roth (France) has recently been appointed at the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as its new Associate Guest Conductor and specialises in French Baroque music.
