28 July 2009

World renowned pianist Herbert Schuch won the 2009 Helpmann Award for Best Individual Classical Performance for his role as soloist with the Australian Youth Orchestra at the 2008 “Beethoven Festival”. Held on Monday 27th July in the Opera Theatre at the iconic Sydney Opera House, the award was presented just days after Schuch again performed in Adelaide with the Australian Youth Orchestra in the final instalment of the Festival.
The “Beethoven Festival” was an exciting two year project which saw the Australian Youth Orchestra, in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre, perform all of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies and five piano concertos at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
The Helpmann Awards, named in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann, was established in 2001 by Live Performance Australia to recognise, celebrate and promote Australia’s live performance industry with awards covering over a number of disciplines including contemporary and classical music, opera, comedy, dance and theatre.
