AYO Alumni form new Chamber Orchestra

Sydney is about to boast a new Chamber Orchestra, the Lurline Chamber Orchestra. The brainchild of sisters Angela Lindsay and Maria Lindsay, the Chamber Orchestra is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.  As successful performers and teachers, both Maria and Angela believe strongly in the value of music education and the need to develop the musicians of tomorrow.  After successful careers with such prestigious orchestras as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Angela and Maria are committed to creating performance opportunities for Sydney’s musicians as well as providing training for the next generation.

Named after Lurline Bay in Sydney’s eastern suburbs where the sisters grew up, the Lurline Chamber Orchestra will cater to what Angela refers to as “a dormant passion” for chamber music in local communities. There is an increasing demand for music in regional urban areas and the Lurline Chamber Orchestra aims to make live music more accessible to more people.

Leading Sydney freelance musicians are amongst the initial line up of the Lurline Chamber Orchestra and Australian Youth Orchestra alumni are well-represented with seven of the 11 players having taken part in AYO programs.

Lurline Chamber Orchestra will launch with a series of concerts in Randwick, Leichhardt, and Hunter’s Hill:

Saturday 12 September 2009 at 7.00 pm – Randwick Town Hall, 90 Avoca Street, Randwick

Tuesday 15 September 2009 at 7.00 pm – Leichhardt Town Hall, 107 Norton Street, Leichhardt

Wednesday 16 September 2009 at 7.00 pm – Most Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Mary Street, Hunter’s Hill
