The Australian Youth Orchestra returns to Melbourne for an amazing one-off performance

Saturday, 10 April at the Melbourne Recital Centre,

The unique sounds of the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) will be descending on Melbourne in April to present a once-only stellar performance of the entire Vivaldi L’estro armonico concerti, as part of the AYO Style Workshop program.

Each year, the AYO Style Workshop provides students with an in-depth opportunity to explore a different style of music to experience the increasingly flexible nature expected of 21st century musicians.

This year’s focus is music from the Baroque period. Audiences can expect a wonderful repertoire of all of the Vivaldi L’estro armonico concerti, with AYO musicians delivering solo performances, culminating in a combined recital with celebrated Australian baroque violinist and AYO alumna Elizabeth Wallfisch.

Wallfisch, a world-renowned specialist in the baroque and classical music styles, has guest-directed and appeared as a soloist with many of the world’s finest chamber orchestras including the Netherlands Bach Society and Vancouver Symphony.

As well as this public performance and undertaking intensive training and rehearsals in the lead up to it, musicians from the AYO Style Workshop will expand their knowledge of the Baroque musical style by attending lectures presented by leading harpsichordist and music historian Neal Peres de Costa.

The Australian Youth Orchestra’s CEO Colin Cornish said it has been more than a year since the country’s top young musicians from the AYO have presented in Melbourne and the musicians are looking forward to putting on a memorable performance.

“The AYO Style Workshop is an incredible opportunity for musicians to learn the essential skills of adapting to various music styles and showcase their musical talents to a Melbourne audience.”

Leading young musicians taking part in the AYO Style Workshop will present their public performance of the Vivaldi works on Saturday 10th April 2010 at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Tickets start from $35.00. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit: www.ayo.com.au

The AYO Style Workshop is made possible by the generous support of the Colonial Foundation Trust.
