AYO String Quartet performing a series of concerts in South Australia

Some of Australia’s most gifted young classical musicians will perform a series of concerts across South Australia as part of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s (AYO) chamber music and regional outreach program called the AYO Regional Residencies.

The AYO String Quartet is part of a unique program which gives four talented musicians, aged between 18 to 25, the opportunity to live the experience of a touring ensemble.

Along with their tutors, the 2010 AYO String Quartet is travelling to Murray Bridge, Tanunda, North Adelaide, and Crafers to present a series of workshops and rehearsals with musicians from the local community, culminating in a combined public performance.

The concerts for the public to enjoy will be held at:
•    Murray Bridge, Unity Collage, Friday April 23 at 1pm (Free concert)
•    Murray Bridge, Christ Church Lutheran Church, Friday April 23 at 7.30pm (Free concert)
•    Tanunda, Barossa Arts and Convention Centre, Wednesday April 28 at 2pm and 7pm (Free concert)
•    North Adelaide, St Peter’s Cathedral, Thursday April 29 at 6.30pm (Free)
•    Crafers, Church of Epiphany, May 1 at 8pm (Tickets Adults $15, Concession $12, Student $10, Family of two adults/two children $50 )

The Australian Youth Orchestra’s Chief Executive Officer Colin Cornish said: “The core feature of the AYO Regional Residencies program is to allow students to interact with the regional communities and further develop their musical skills as individuals and also as part of a music ensemble.”

“From the communities’ perspective, there will be a wonderful series of concerts for them to enjoy.”

Renowned violinist Natsuko Yoshimoto, currently Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, will coach the AYO quartet as they prepare for this concert series.

Since its inception in 1999, The AYO Regional Residencies program has visited 34 regional communities across the country, with more than 1,500 young regional music students actively involved.
