Gillian Williams, horn 

Gillian Williams began playing Trumpet at eight and switched to Horn in high school as there were more opportunities. She is currently undertaking a Masters of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the direction of Robert Johnson. Gillian held the position of Principal Horn of Sydney Youth Orchestra from 2011 to 2013, and has been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2012 and 2013. Gillian has attended the AYO National Music Camp for four consecutive years, from 2010-2013, and the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (AISOI) in Tasmania in 2011 and 2012. Gillian is a member of the 2013 Sydney Symphony Sinfonia Program and  plays as a causal with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She is also on the casual list for the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

In 2012 she was the Winner of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Concerto Competition, and a finalist in the Brass round in 2010.

In 2013 she was the recipient of the annual George Henderson Memorial Scholarship of $25,000, and also received the 2012 Richard Merry-Weather Prize for the highest mark in the French Horn Department.

As a freelance horn player in Sydney, Gill performs with many different ensembles, including the Sydney Symphony Sydney Orchestra, Conservatorium ensembles, SBS Youth Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Kur-ring-gai Philharmonic and many others. She is a regular tutor at the NSW State Music Camps and many local school band camps across Northern Sydney.

Gill has studied with many renowned Horn players including Tony Buddle, Andrew Bain and Robert Johnson and had lessons with Barry Tuckwell, Frank Lloyd, Nichole Cash, Hector McDonald, Jeff Nelson, Peter Luff, Euan Harvey, Marnie Sebire and Daryl Poulsen.

In her spare time Gill enjoys long distance running and trail running. She recently completed her 8th half marathon.
