Kate Proctor, flute

Kate began her musical education at the Mitchell Conservatorium in Bathurst. After studying under numerous teachers there, she successfully auditioned for the Youth Access Program at the Sydney Conservatorium in 2005. It was then that Kate began having regular lessons with James Kortum in Sydney. In 2006, she successfully auditioned for a solo performance as part of the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Opera House, and in 2007 completed her HSC and was nominated for Encore. In 2009, Kate began a Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium, majoring in flute performance, continuing her studies under Kortum and commencing piccolo lessons with Rosamund Plummer.

In 2010, she was a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia, various conservatorium ensembles and began studying flute with Geoffrey Collins. In October of 2010, Kate travelled to America as part of the SCM Chamber Orchestra, returning to complete her second year of studies. In 2011, she was a member of the Sydney Sinfonia and Sydney Youth Orchestra, performed with Orchestra Romantique and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and successfully applied for an Honours year, which she passed with First Class Honours. In 2012, she was a semi-finalist in the Australian Youth Classical Music competition and won the Sydney Conservatorium and Sydney Youth Orchestra concerto competitions. In 2013, Kate successfully auditioned for casual positions in the Queensland, Tasmanian and Australia Opera and Ballet Orchestras and has been working casually with them in the lead up to the Australian Youth Orchestra's International Tour to Europe.
