
The Australian Youth Orchestra
For any young orchestral musician, being part of the internationally recognised Australian Youth Orchestra represents the epitome of achievement. Selection into the AYO is an acknowledgement of excellence, recognised with the rewards of amazing international conductors, inspiring repertoire and great concerts in Australia’s most prestigious venues, we have two seasons, February and July.

$1020 per season.
AYO will arrange and cover all travel, instrument freight, meals and accommodation costs associated with this program.
Eligibility
- 25 years or under, as at 1 January 2012
- Minimum standard AMEB Grade 7 or equivalent
- Open to all orchestral instrumentalists, including keyboard and harp (July only)
- Participants must be available for both February and July seasons
February Season
In 2012, under the baton of Christopher Hogwood the AYO will return to Melbourne to delight audiences with a selection of Mendelssohn’s beautifully crafted symphonies.

AMIR FARID piano
Winner of the 2006 Australian National Piano Award, pianist Amir Farid has been described as “a highly creative musician – a pianist of great intelligence and integrity.
July Season
This year AYO will storm the mighty mountain and summit the peak of Strauss’s monumental Alpine Symphony in Brisbane, conducted by Simone Young.

Emma Matthews
