AYO PLAYERS MENTORED BY EXTRAORDINARY ALUMNI

In July, AYO musicians had the privilege of joining the Australian World Orchestra on stage at the Sydney Opera House with acclaimed conductor, Sir Simon Rattle. Over 80% of AWO musicians trained with the AYO at the start of their careers, and were able to share their wisdom with a new generation of AYO players.

AYO Alumnus and Donor Matthew Coorey (AYO/National Music Camp 1990-94) is a conductor based in the United Kingdom. His recent concert seasons have included debuts with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Palestine National Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the National Orchestra of Ireland, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and a debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the BBC Proms.

AYO MUSICIAN RACHEL HOWIE

Rachel Howie is a Sydney-based flautist who completed her Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the Australian National University in Canberra. She has participated in AYO’s programs since 2007, and in 2015 had the chance to play alongside members of the AWO on the Sydney Opera House Stage in a very special collaboration.
