An update on AYO in 2021

As we look to the year ahead, we are now inviting young musicians from across Australia to audition for our 2021 programs. We appreciate the continued support and patience that our community has given us over the past months as we have worked to finalise the details of our 2021 offerings.

We have been closely monitoring the restrictions around travel and large gatherings across Australia, and this has led to some adjustments to our 2021 programs, which have been designed to ensure the utmost safety and wellbeing of our young musicians.

The changes include the creation of two new, temporary programs, AYO Autumn Music Camp, which will cater to musicians aged 18–22, and AYO Spring Music Camp, which will cater to musicians aged 12–17. Due to the uncertainties, we are unable to present the AYO National Music Camp in January hence two new shorter camps in 2021. Our popular AYO Young Symphonists program has been expanded to provide more places for young musicians under 18 years of age and will be the AYO Spring Music camp next year. We look forward to the return of the traditional two-week summer music camp in 2022.

AYO’s arts administration and composition programs will also be presented in a new format in 2021. Online modules as well as practical placements during physical program activity throughout the year will be offered.

We are aware that the pandemic has imposed a financial burden upon many people all over Australia, and wish to reaffirm AYO’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible musicians are able to participate in our programs regardless of financial and geographic barriers through our generous financial assistance program.

We are optimistic that these adjustments will put AYO in the best position to continue delivering life-changing musical experiences to as many young people as possible in 2021. Thank you for your understanding and support as we streamline this new audition process and work to deliver our 2021 programs amid such unusual circumstances. If you have any questions about AYO’s 2021 programs, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With best wishes,
