Arts Administration Program

No other course offers the kind of intense practical experience in every aspect of orchestral operations that this program provides. Under the leadership of Lou Oppenheim, Director of Operations, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, you will be part of the dynamic operations team at the centre of all the action at AYO National Music Camp – as part of the organisational powerhouse. The knowledge and experience you gain will equip you with a secure foundation for a successful career in orchestral management.

Participants will be eligible for the Kenneth Tribe Arts Administration Scholarship to assist with the cost of participating.

Fellowship opportunities with the Sydney Symphony and Oz Opera will also be offered to participants. Application details for these fellowships will be available at AYO National Music Camp.

Currently the Director of Operations at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra,
Lou Oppenheim first joined the MSO on secondment in 2003. Prior to this position, Lou was a Consultant with the international consulting firm, Boston Consulting Group. In her original position at the MSO in strategic planning, Lou was responsible for a range of specific projects, including the orchestra’s response to Government Reviews. From 2005, Lou moved across into the Operations Department, initially as the Orchestral Personnel Manager.

Her current responsibilities include management of all MSO performance activities and all aspects of orchestral administration for the MSO’s permanent and casual musicians.

Highlights of her career to date include the MSO’s 2007 European Tour and a number of specific collaborations with international soloists and artists. Lou is also a Committee Member for Melbourne Youth Music, and was the Arts Administration Tutor for AYO’s National Music Camp in 2011.
