Unfortunately AYO’s Autumn and Winter Seasons, which were set to commence on 10 April and 4 July, will not go ahead as planned.

All your experience as a student and player reaches a pinnacle when you become a member of AYO’s flagship ensemble: the Australian Youth Orchestra. Selection is an acknowledgement of excellence at a national level. This program will give you a taste of the rich possibilities of today’s world of orchestral music-making. You’ll tackle inspiring repertoire with the world’s most innovative musical leaders; and perform in prestigious venues across Australia.



What’s involved?

The AYO Autumn Season and Winter Season will give you the opportunities to experience the music-making of the orchestral world. The Autumn Season will feature a solo performance by cellist and AYO alumnus, Pei-Sian Ng. Later in the year, the Winter Season will be held in Brisbane with a residency at Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, with conductor Elim Chan at the helm.

Benjamin Northey, conductor

Australian conductor Benjamin Northey is the Chief Conductor of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and the Principal Conductor in Residence of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Read more.

Pei-Sian Ng, cello

Pei Sian, also known as Pei Sian Ng, was Commonwealth Musician of the Year in 2007, winner of the Gold Medal and First Prize at the 55th Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition held in London. Read more.

AYO Winter Season

Elim Chan

One of the most exciting conductors of the younger generation and already widely admired for her unique combination of “drama and tenderness, power and delicacy” (Hereford Times), Elim Chan has recently been appointed Chief Conductor Designate of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. Read more.
