Australian Youth Orchestra

All your experience as a student and player reaches a pinnacle when you become a member of AYO’s flagship ensemble: the Australian Youth Orchestra. Selection in the AYO is an acknowledgement of excellence at a national level.

With this program, you’ll witness the rich possibilities available to you in today’s world of orchestral music-making. You’ll collaborate with like-minded national peers as well as some of the world’s most inspiring artists. The program gives participants the chance to tackle rewarding repertoire, while performing in prestigious venues across Australia.

What to expect on the program

As a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, you will undertake two orchestral seasons alongside the best young musicians from across the country. In April, musicians will gather to rehearse before performing a public concert. In July, the orchestra will come together once again to delight audiences with an exhilarating concert series.

The musicians of the Australian Youth Orchestra get to play in extraordinary venues with some of the world's greatest musical minds. Pictured below: the orchestra performing at Sydney Town Hall under the baton of renowned conductor Sit Mark Elder CH CBE, during the 2022 interstate tour.
