AYO Winter SeasonThe Australian Youth Orchestra traverses the mountain tops this July performing Richard Strauss’ epic, image laden 1915 tone poem, An Alpine Symphony, alongside the overture of Hector Berlioz’s famous unfinished opera Les francs-juges under the expert leadership of renowned British conductor, Sir Mark Elder. |
Momentum EnsembleWe are delighted to welcome back Music Director of the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Ariel Zuckermann, to lead Momentum Ensemble through an exciting array of contemporary works that explore themes of place, nature and belonging. Between 23 May and 4 June, the ensemble will tour through fire impacted communities in Victoria and New South Wales, culminating in a performance at Tasmania’s picturesque Spring Bay Mill. Celebrating Australian music, this project will feature Avem Asperitas, a special work created for Momentum Ensemble in 2019 by composer Lachlan Skipworth and photographer Greg Barrett. The program will also present evocative works for chamber ensemble by Japanese composer Tōru Takemitsu, and Australian composers Julia Potter and Brenda Gifford, concluding with Julian Yu’s skilful arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
