AYO Composition
Great pieces of music always start with an empty page. In our unique Composition program, you’ll have the opportunity to workshop your ideas with other like-minded young composers in a shared endeavour of music-making. Push the boundaries of composition with guidance from one of Australia’s leading composers, and experience the joy of having your brand new work brought to life by the musicians and tutors of the AYO National Music Camp orchestral program.
Tutor
What to expect on the program
As a Composition participant, you’ll be encouraged to push the boundaries of composition as you work with an experienced tutor to fine-tune your new piece of music. During the program you’ll also have the opportunity to work with AYO’s experienced instrumental tutors, who will share their expertise on the nuances of writing for their instrument and perform your composition in an exciting public concert.
From the minute you arrive at AYO National Music Camp, you’ll experience a whirl of new faces and first encounters with Australia’s best young players, composers, sound engineers and music journalists. With an action-packed schedule it’s important that your focus is on the program at hand. Rest assured you will be well looked after, allowing you to concentrate on your preparation and performance. We provide airport transfers, comfortable shared accommodation and three meals per day for every camp attendee.
Hear from two of our past AYO Composition participants, Alice and Tom, as they describe their experience on the program in 2019.
