David Khafagi, tutor

David Khafagi began his orchestral administration career at the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, where he gained employment as a part-time Operations Assistant, while studying trumpet with TSO Principal Trumpet, Yoram Levy. David’s interest in orchestral administration continued after he left Tasmania, and he worked for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (again, as an Operations Assistant) and the Queensland Conservatorium, in venue management.

In 2007 David moved to Adelaide with his wife, Janet Anderson, who had been awarded a position as a violinist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. It was not long before he was involved with the ASO Operations team, gaining a full-time position as Operations Assistant in 2008, in which he worked closely with the Production and Orchestral Managers in all aspects of orchestral management. In 2015 David was awarded the new position of ASO Orchestral Coordinator, in which he is responsible for working closely with the players of the orchestra and members of management to ensure smooth running of the orchestra’s daily activities.

David is also an accomplished trumpet player, having completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours from Queensland and Elder Conservatoria, and having performed with the Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmanian and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. He continues to work hard to maintain both his Orchestral Management and performing careers.

David participated in National Music Camp in 2005, and performed in AYO the same year.
