Momentum Ensemble News

Momentum Ensemble immersed audiences in the ornate music of the eighteenth century under the direction of virtuoso harpsichordist Erin Helyard, presenting Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Dardanus suite.

In this newly commissioned collaboration with composer Lachlan Skipworth and photographer Greg Barrett, Momentum Ensemble presented Avem Asperitas alongside a contemporary collection of music for small orchestra.

The energetic young Momentum Ensemble joined forces with singer-songwriter Lior and conductor Nigel Westlake to present a concert capturing the characteristic Middle Eastern sounds of Lior’s music, with an enchanting twist.

Six Momentum Ensemble musicians, violinist Bindi McFarlane and didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton had the great privilege of creating music in a collaborative project with students from Peninsula Specialist College and Portland Bay School.

Momentum Ensemble
Powered by the Australian Youth Orchestra

Meet Momentum Ensemble, a group of dynamic orchestral performers powered by the Australian Youth Orchestra. The program acts as a springboard for exceptional young musicians who want to develop a multi-faceted career in music. The aim of these musicians is to democratize Classical music, bringing new interpretations and unconventional works to audiences, and performing in venues that transcend the boundaries of the traditional recital hall.

Momentum Ensemble emerged out of a desire to fill a vocational and training gap for young musicians who are at the cusp of their professional careers. Members of the ensemble will gain teaching skills, access professional development opportunities, and develop skills that will assist them in launching a career as a versatile artist of the 21st century.

This project has been made possible with the generous support of our sponsors.
