SCOTT WEATHERSON, percussion

AYO National Music Camp 2018 Tutor

Born in Melbourne, Scott Weatherson moved overseas in 2005 to take up the position of Principal Timpanist and Percussionist with the Macao Orchestra. While in Macao he was also professor of percussion at the Macao Conservatory. He left that position in 2014 to move to Hong Kong to teach percussion and perform as a freelance timpanist and percussionist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.

Scott is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands – where he studied with Nick Woud, Principal Timpanist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Returning to Australia in 2016, he is a regular casual timpanist and percussionist with Orchestra Victoria as well as working as a percussion tutor for Melbourne Youth Orchestras and State Music Camp.

Outside of performance, Scott is active in the fields of percussion research and publishing. His website – The European Timpani – contains a wealth of information about timpani design and advice from professional players, and has been praised by percussionists worldwide. His arrangements for percussion groups ranging in size from two to ten players are published by Edition
Svitzer in Denmark and have been performed in concerts and competitions in Australia and internationally. Scott is also a performing artist for Fromme Echter Weiner Schlegel.
