Inspired by the late Geoffrey Parsons to become an accompanist, Susanne Powell is recognised as one of Australia’s leading pianists in that field. Born in Sydney, she attended the Conservatorium High School and completed an undergraduate degree at the Conservatorium studying with Nancy Salas and David Miller. She continued her studies at the Hochschule in Vienna with Heinz Medjimorec and later with Bruno Canino in Italy and Geoffrey Parsons in London.

Susanne has appeared with many international artists including Dimitri Ashkenazy, Cho Liang Lin, David Grimal, Ilya Konovalov, Ofra Harnoy, Paula Robison and Susan Milan, as well as with Australian artists such as David Pereira, Virginia Taylor, Barbara Jane Gilby, and Julian Smiles. She has participated in many Festivals in Australia including Sydney, Huntington, Kowmung, 4 Winds Bermagui, and Canberra International Chamber Music Festival and is a frequent performer on ABC Classic FM.

Susanne has been an accompanist for the Jacqueline du Pre master classes in London’s South Bank Summer Music series, the Britten-Pears Summer School in Aldeburgh and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival master courses in Germany. She has made numerous national and international tours with the Canberra Wind Soloists for Musica Viva.

Susanne is principal keyboard player for Canberra Symphony Orchestra and appears frequently as guest keyboard player with the Sydney Symphony. Until 2012, Susanne was on the teaching faculty at the Australian National University School of Music, Canberra.

She was the recipient of the  artsACT Creative Fellowship for 2012.
